Collaboration

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up." - Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 (NIV)

We believe that children experience the greatest success when families, educators, and specialized professionals work together as a team. Collaboration is at the heart of our inclusive philosophy because every child deserves consistent support both at school and at home. We value parents and caregivers as their child's first and most important teachers, and we strive to build trusting relationships based on open communication, mutual respect, and shared goals. By partnering with families and professionals, we can better understand each child's unique strengths, interests, developmental needs, and cultural background. Research consistently shows that meaningful family engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration contribute to improved academic achievement, stronger social-emotional development, and better long-term outcomes for children with and without disabilities (Division for Early Childhood [DEC], 2023; National Association for the Education of Young Children [NAEYC], 2020). Family-centered partnerships are most effective when educators actively involve families in decision-making and recognize parents as equal partners throughout their child's educational journey (Dunst, 2002).

Communication with families is a priority at HPCCC. Teachers maintain regular contact through daily communication logs, classroom newsletters, parent-teacher conferences, phone calls, emails, and a secure classroom communication app that allows families to receive updates, photos, and important announcements throughout the day. We also host family engagement events, including literacy nights, holiday celebrations, service projects, and parent workshops focused on child development, school readiness, and positive behavior strategies. As a Christian preschool, we encourage families to participate in faith-based activities such as community service events and seasonal celebrations that strengthen relationships while reinforcing the values of compassion, kindness, and service to others.

One intentional way we partner with families is by developing individualized learning goals together. For example, if a preschool child is working on recognizing letters, teachers provide engaging literacy activities during the school day while sending home simple games and books for families to enjoy together. If a child is learning to manage emotions or improve communication skills, families receive practical strategies they can incorporate into everyday routines, creating consistency between home and school. Parents are encouraged to share observations, celebrate accomplishments, and communicate concerns so that instructional decisions reflect the child's progress across multiple environments. This collaborative approach helps children build confidence while strengthening the connection between families and educators.

Our childcare center also collaborates closely with professionals who provide specialized services to support children's development. Depending on a child's needs, our team may work alongside speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school psychologists, behavior specialists, early intervention providers, and special education teachers. For example, if a child with a speech delay receives speech-language therapy, classroom teachers regularly communicate with the speech-language pathologist to reinforce targeted communication goals during classroom activities, story time, and play. Similarly, occupational therapists may recommend classroom adaptations, sensory strategies, or fine motor activities that teachers can naturally incorporate into daily routines. These collaborative efforts ensure that children receive consistent, evidence-based support across all learning environments, promoting meaningful progress toward developmental and educational goals (DEC, 2023).

As the director of HPCCC, I believe collaboration extends beyond academics; it is about building a caring community where every child is known, supported, and encouraged to reach their God-given potential. Guided by our Christian faith, we approach every partnership with humility, compassion, and a shared commitment to helping children flourish academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Together, families, educators, and professionals create a strong foundation that prepares children for lifelong learning and success.
